8.1.7 Client Only on linux

I am stuck trying to install 8.1.7 on linux. I get to the point of running .runInstaller, and it says it is running the JRE, but nothing actually happens.

What I want is an RPM of just the net8 client .so's. I DO NOT NEED the full install, and I don't want all this extra JAVA crap. Why can't I find an RPM, or a simple tarball?
